Tuesday, February 05, 2008

Birmingham, Ala. - Auburn junior Lindsey Puckett was named SEC Gymnast of the week after winning the all-around title at N.C. State and placing first on vault, announced the Southeastern Conference.

"We are super excited for Lindsey," said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. "She has gotten off to a great start this year and we are happy to see the conference recognize the impact that she is making for this team."

Puckett's selection comes off of an Auburn win over N.C. State, George Washington and Texas Women's University in a quad meet. Puckett earned first place in the all-around scoring 39.325. She also earned first place on vault with a 9.900. She placed second on beam with a 9.825, and tied for third on bars, scoring 9.825.

Puckett is ranked No. 23 in the all-around by GymInfo. She has taken first place in the all-around two times this season, with the first coming at Kentucky. Puckett has earned first place on vault in three of Auburn's four meets. She has won each event at least once this season.

This is Puckett's second nod as Gymnast of the Week in her career. She was selected on Feb. 21, 2006, as a freshman.

Puckett and the Tigers will travel to Baton Rouge on Feb. 8, to face LSU and West Virginia at 7 p.m., CT, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Auburn will return to action on the Plains Feb. 15, to host Georgia. Admission for adults is $5 and $2 for children. Live stats for all home meets are available at www.auburntigers.com.
