MOUNTAIN BROOK-- Four Auburn Gymnastics Academy optional level team members competed at the 2007 Optional Judges Cup this past weekend. The event was hosted by Mountain Brook Gymnastics. All four gymnasts were promoted to their current levels prior to this season and competed at that level for the first time. Sarah Freeman and Victoria Fang began their optional careers each with one top-three finish. Freeman finished third on Beam, while Fang finished with a first place finish on Vault. Freeman also finished fourth All-Around in her age-division.
Mary Ashton Klingler competed at level 8 for the first time and turned in a solid performace. Jessica Gottesman, who also moved to level 8 this year, did not compete as she is still recovering from off-season wrist surgery.
Pam Sanasith moved up to compete at level 10 this season and finished third on Bars, second on Beam and second All-Around in her age division.
Coaches Kristi Ewasko and Jackie Smith were pleased with the results at the start of this optional season and believe it sets the stage for a strong 2008 optional season begining in January.
