AU Gymnastics A Success In First Intra-Squad
Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Based on the official judge's scores, the Tigers are on track for a great 2008.

Auburn, Ala. - The Auburn Gymnastics team competed in its first intra-squad meet Tuesday at the McWhorter Center.

The team employed an official judge to score the meet in order to give the gymnasts a better idea of where they stand with just under two months left before the season. Based on the judge's scores, the ladies had a successful first competition.

"I think they looked awesome," said head coach Jeff Thompson. "A week ago, we knew who out top six were, but A.J. (Mills) had to miss this with an illness, so that shook up our lineup, but it gave some other people a chance to shine."

Competing for the Tigers today were seniors Julie Dwyer, Kayla Gies, Aimee Goheen and Karmen Pinckney, juniors Lindsey Puckett and Claire Seiffert, sophomores Carmen Nelms and Krissy Voss and freshmen Becky Blahyj, Katie Hurley, Rachael Inniss, Leah Vining and Shannon Walpole.

"The freshmen really stepped it up today," said Gies. "They really hit their routines under pressure."

The Tigers hit all of their beam and floor routines and they hit nine-out-of-10 on vault and bars.

"We always say to the girls, what you do in the Thanksgiving meet is what you will compete during the season," Thompson said. "We are pleased with what we saw today."

The Tigers will hold their Christmas Intra-Squad Meet on Dec. 15. Auburn will open its 2008 season on the road against Kentucky on Jan. 12. The Tigers open their home schedule on Jan. 18 versus Alabama.
