Gadsden, Alabama -- Auburn Gymnastics Academy's optional level gymnasts competed at the 2008 State Championships this past weekend at Gadsden City High School. The Championship represents the end of season for level 7 gymnasts, while levels 8 through 10 hope to qualify for the Region 8 Championships to be held in Huntsville beginning April 18, 2008.

Pamela Sanasith (level 10), qualified for the Regional Championships for the second straight year and her first year as a level 10 gymnast. In order to qualify for level 10 regionals, a gymnast must score 34.00 or better at the State Championships, Sanasith scored a 34.950 to secure her spot while finishing 3rd on Vault and 4th on Beam at the State Championships.

Sarah Freeman (level 7) scored a 9.325 on bars and was crowned the 2008 Level 7 Bars Champion. Freeman's State Championship brings AGA's 2007-08 total to 11 State Championships -- AGA Gymnasts earned 10 state championships at the Alabama Compulsory State Championships earlier in the season. Freeman also placed 3rd on Vault, and sixth All-Around at the State Championships. Victoria Fang (level 7) finished 3rd on Vault, 3rd on Bars and 2nd on Floor, and earned third-place All-Around at the meet. Level 7 gymnast Victoria Starks placed 6th on Vault.

Mary Ashton Klingler and Jessica Gottesman, both level 8, struggled on Beam -- preventing them from qualifying for Regionals -- but they nonetheless placed on several events. Klingler finished 5th on Bars and 6th on Floor. Gottesman, finished 6th on Bars and 4th on Floor.

Sanasith, will compete at Regionals, April 18 hoping to secure a spot at the National Championships to be held May 16-18 at the Silver Spurs Arena located in Kissimmee, Florida.
