No. 14 AU Gym Set To Take On No. 10 Gym’Backs
Thursday, February 21, 2008

Auburn, Ala. - The No. 14 Auburn gymnastics team (4-5, 0-5) will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the No. 10 Arkansas Gym’Backs (3-4, 1-3 SEC) for its final conference meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., in Barnhill Arena.

“It is an intense and fun rivalry for both of our schools,” said Auburn head coach Jeff Thompson. “Our gymnasts know that the theme is to get off to a good start. If we go up there and do really well on the first two events, it’s going to be a really exciting and really close meet.”

Auburn and Arkansas meet for the 11th time since 2003 when Arkansas began a gymnastics team. The Gym’Backs have a two-meet edge over the Tigers in the series (4-6). The last time the two teams met in the regular season, Arkansas edged Auburn 196.325-195.400.

The Tigers meet with Arkansas coming off a loss to Georgia at home. Auburn junior Lindsey Puckett captured the all-around title in the loss, and senior Julie Dwyer earned the floor title, scoring a personal best 9.925.

Puckett and Dwyer both moved into the top 10 of the GymInfo national rankings following their performances. Puckett is ranked as the No. 6 gymnast in the all-around and she is tied for No. 14 on vault and tied for No. 18 on floor. Dwyer is the No. 10 all-arounder and is ranked at No. 21 on balance beam. Junior A.J. Mills is ranked at No. 23 in the all-around.

The Tigers will return to the Plains on Feb. 29, to host Illinois at 7 p.m., in Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Tickets for the meet are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Admission is free for Auburn students with a valid student ID.
